We have become a salad crazed country. Man cannot live on salad alone as much as he cannot live on bread alone. Sure, you can dress up a salad with grilled chicken, nuts, cheese, dried fruits but will it be satisfying enough to sustain you?
Every person can decide for him/herself what they want to eat, prefer to eat... right? Yes. So, why do we have experts telling us what to eat as in what is better for us? Because, man cannot live on salad or bread alone... that's why. We need a balanced diet with a certain amount of carbs, protein and minerals.
If we look around, the salad craze (salad bar) has been around long enough to show us that it is not working; obesity is prevalent. The main reason is that people are not sitting down to a balanced meal that has the above mentioned. They sit down to a salad topped with food stuffs that contain sugar. In fact, many vegetables contain as much sugar as some carbs.
Vegetables high in sugar include sweet potatoes, beets, onions, green
peas, sweet corn, peas, canned pumpkin, winter squash, rutabagas,
carrots, and tomatoes. They range from providing 3.5g to 14g (1 to 3.5
teaspoons) of sugar per cup.
Eating well is for our health and well being. Eating until you are full is also part of that and key to keeping unwanted weight off. Its mental... people over eat because either they starve all day and then are so depleted they jump on the food wagon or that they over eat by nibbling all day because they deny themselves a main meal to fill up on.
